A multi-faceted Artist

The very name of Bal Wad has an aura! A multi faceted personality and artist, Bal Wad has come a long way. Reflecting back on his life, 75-year-old Bal Wad stated that he had to struggle along, and sold his handmade toys at 3 paisa a dozen on the footpaths of Mumbai, in 1939. His entire career has based been on scholarships or sponsorships. He has Diplomas and Degrees from a number of countries - National Diploma in Designing (England, 1956), Post Graduation in Applied Art (Yugoslavia, 1962), Govt. Scholarship to study the Museums in America (1960). Besides, he has held about 48 one-man exhibitions/shows of his work in England, America, Yugoslavia, Mumbai, New Delhi, which were inaugurated by eminent personalities like - Pandit Nehru & Indira Gandhi in Yugoslavia, Chief Justice M C Chagla, Chief Justice Meherchand Mahajan and Balraj Sahani, the famous Hindi actor.

His teaching assignments cover almost five decades, and even today he runs a Creative Club at his residence in Pune.

Bal Wad has also done several murals, the largest being 44' x 33' for the University of Pune in 1993, which adorns the EMRC building.

This versatile person has authored several books also. One of them is in 4 volumes titled "My Dialogues With The University Gardens" which contain over 600 sketches of the University gardens. Other books are on How to paint in fabric, How to paint Landscapes, etc.

To sum up this personality and artist, painter, sculptor and mural artist in his own words: "I love accepting challenges." His ambition is to start India's first Art & Craft University, for which he is in touch with the government, where they would teach dance, painting, music, etc.
