The Store with Attitude!

The shop has a little bit of this and a little bit of that - and loads of attitudeThe store with attitude. The brightly painted door is most inviting, and once inside, you connect almost instantly to this charming store. Once connected, you cannot help but browse. Every nook and cranny has been assiduously used to display all that Viji has to offer. So the doors are adorned with bright 'Ikea 'curtains from the South and each corner has been portioned off to cater to interesting sections. Ethnic salwar kameez in pure cotton and jute in striking colours hang from one side, while dupattas in varied hues and textures flow out of cane baskets placed on the floor. Textured fabric tops, mix-n-match kurtas and shirts are neatly stacked on wooden shelves. Bright checks lure you to another interesting corner. Here you will find an interesting range of table covers, mats, napkins, runners, kitchen curtains and aprons in bright prints and patterns. There is an entire rack dedicated to bags - from tiny canvas bags for little moppets to smart jute ones for the moppet's Mom!

The woman behind the storeThe store also has a lot of intriguing objects that would serve as interesting gifts. From the heart-warming idols of Lord Ganesha to a variety of photo frames, terracotta masks, and clay knick-knacks, Viji has managed to find a rightful place for each of these interesting objects d'art. The sketchings that adorn the wall or are tucked away carefully under the racks are also for sale. So also are the mirror work 'Batwas' that would have met with Pupul Jaykar's approval. The latest addition to the collection are the jute collapsible bin bags. Viji is brimming with ideas for her dream shop. "I was always fond of good stuff and couldn't always afford to buy them; now I pick up stuff for the shop with gay abandon, " she quips endearingly.

A cosy cornerUnfortunately, space constraints have compelled her to abandon a lot of her plans. For now, she is happy ensconced in her charming little store with big dreams for the future.
