The country's largest auto portal is set to e-define
Motoring needs of Indians |
Exide Industries Limited, India's leading
storage battery manufacturer today, announced their
entry into the
e-market with the launch of the country's
most comprehensive portal on automobiles - www.autoexide.com.
Aimed at both the end-users, as well as the
businesses operating in the automobile sector, this
mega portal will offer a host of value-added services
such as online auto finance and insurance, servicing
& maintenance, car rentals, auto consultancy,
and online purchase of spare parts, batteries and
various other auto components. Autoexide.com will
follow a phase-wise implementation process and will
use its business-expertise and technology to enable
other players in the automotive industry to interact
directly with their customers, allowing them to
penetrate the growing market further.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr S B Ganguly, Chairman,
Exide Industries Limited, commented, "Exide
has been a pioneer in the auto-ancillary industry
and we expect our foray into the e-business in such
a big way will spell its transition from a brick
and mortar to a click and mortar company".
The strategy behind the portal is to become a 'one-stop-shop'
solution provider for consumers, for seeking
any information on automobiles (both 2-wheelers
& 4-wheelers) or for any other related services
such as finance, insurance, purchase of accessories,
amongst many other services. The portal will also
be used for progressively connecting Exide dealers
to carry out online business with the company and
their end users.
Mr Ganguly further added that, "We
want to ensure a more focused, 'customer centric'
Exide, with better understanding of customer
demands; its translation into superior production
planning, sales delivery, and complete online accounting
for each and every transaction in a secure environment."
Autoexide.com has been positioned not only for browsers
and for customers, but will also allow all the dealers
of the company to carry out their day-to-day transactions.
The portal would be integrated with the existing
SAP ERP system, using the Oracle Interconnect
system. This implies a complete e-enabling of the
entire Supply Chain Management for the company.
The portal has been built on Oracle 9/AS application
server and on Oracle 8i Database resting on the
SUN Solaris platform, which is the latest, most
scaleable and robust technology platform in the
country today. Exide is using the Managed Co-location
Service provided by Satyam Infoway at their
Vashi Data Center.
Exide Industries Limited, a pioneer in the Indian
storage battery industry, is also the largest Power
Storage Solutions company in South and South East
Asia.
Exide has nine factories strategically located across
the country - 4 in Maharashtra, 2 in West Bengal,
and 2 in Tamil Nadu and a ninth one in Bawal, Haryana,
providing logistic support for its production.
