Pune
now
has a new Ford Standard Service Station.
The Station is run by Talera Ford. It was inaugurated
by Randy Shockley, Vice President Sales and Marketing,
Ford India Ltd. The station located in Wagholi,
on the Pune-Nagar highway is spread over three
acres. The station was set up at a cost of Rupees
two crore.
The
facility has been planned with the idea of operating
three shifts, while the servicing equipment has
been designed to cater to Ford’s introduction
of newer models in the coming year. This center
has a capacity to accommodate 41 cars at a time
for general servicing and 25 cars at a time for
denting and painting work.
The center has an air-conditioned engine room
taking into consideration that engine/gearbox
overhaul is the most time consuming and critical
area in servicing. The engine room will provide
the technician, with a peaceful environment to
concentrate on his critical job.
The
polyurethane floor of the station has been designed
to prevent oil seepage, making maintenance easier.
The fully computerized world-wide diagnostic system,
diagnoses the problems of the car.
The Director of Talera Ford, Mr. Pramod Talera
said, "The Center has been specifically
designed keeping in mind the service needs of
the automobile industry."
Commenting on the Ford dealer network in the country,
Shockley said, "The number of dealers
are 22, while the number of sales and service
centers are 61, but there are plans to increase
it to 70 soon."
He attributed the fewer dealers compared to service
stations, to the fact that with more dealers the
profit margin is lesser. The dealers are so busy
recovering their money that customer satisfaction
suffers. "So, we at Ford prefer the fewer
dealers, larger customer base and better services."
The service station can service cars of other
makes also.
