- Jojn Deere Limited is a joint venture, with
equal equity participation by Larsen & Turbo
Limited and Deere & Company, USA
- world leaders in agricultural farm equipment.
The company is a 50:50 joint venture. L&T's
association with Deere spans over four decades through
a marketing tie-up for the Jojn Deere brand of tractors
and combine harvesters in India. The LTJD tractors
will be the 12th participant in the race for the
top spot in the crowded Indian tractor market. An
investment is being made by LTJD in this green field
project for manufacturing 30,000 tractors per annum.
The L&T-Jojn Deere factory located at Sanaswadi
near Pune is one of the finest in the world. Manufacturing
is carried out at three interlinked factories -
Transmission, Engine and Vehicle. A phased manufacturing
schedule covers tractors of 55hp, 47 hp and 37 hp.
The plant has a provision for expansion of capacity
to 60,000 units per annum.
The company has established a network of 40 dealers
in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya
Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana
and Punjab. They are equipped with state-of-the-art
customer care facilities including mobile service
vans, field demonstration teams and IT-based management
systems to provide pre and post sales services to
customers at their doorsteps. The company has a
network of area offices and sales depots across
the country, to facilitate speedy response to customer
needs.
The first model to be rolled out was the 55 HP
5310 range, and this will be followed by the
37 HP, 47 HP and the 70 HP tractors -
all in green and yellow only. The company has achieved
65 per cent indigenisation of components and this
figure is expected to go up to 90 per cent by the
end of the first year. Most of the components have
been sourced from in and around Maharashtra, where
150 suppliers are based. The company hopes to reach
the 30,000 annual tractor production mark in five
years' time. The engine factory has the country's
first ever totally computerised engine test cells.
