Bajaj
Tempo Ltd has unveiled the all new Minidoor
six-wheeler. It is a specially designed environment
friendly, and safe vehicle. The Minidoor
is the result of the latest technology and advanced
R&D efforts.
It employs the latest technology in emission control,
like the Mercedes Combustion Chamber in
a Water Cooled IDI (Indirect injection)
Diesel engine. Some other remarkable features
of the Minidor include comfortable seating configuration,
dual circuit braking with self-adjuster for high
safety, and independent rear suspension for torsion
bars for excellent stability on rough terrain.
The six-seater Minidoor vehicle is also ideal
for individual operators and generates high self-employment
potential. For commuters, it is a comfortable,
convenient and economical option.
Mr Abhay Firodia the Chairman of Bajaj
Tempo, in his opening remarks to the press
said, "there was a crying need in the
country for more public utility vehicles as the
public transport system had failed in its duty
of providing cheap transport to the people."
He further added, "Let there be competition
in passenger vehicle transport and let the people
decide what is best whether it is 3-wheeler, 6-seater,
state or private-run transport. In India, you
can buy a 40-tonne Volvo truck and other freight
trucks and there is no restriction, but for passenger
transport there are a lot of artificial hurdles."
Mr
Firodia recalled that his father the Late Mr N
K Firodia had been the person who had introduced
the three-seater rickshaw in India. When asked
to comment about the accusations levelled against
the minidoor, Mr Firodia retorted, "It
is the vested interests who are creating ruckus
over noise produced by Minidoor because the transport
run by the local civic bodies is facing competition.
There is space for small vehicles such as rickshaws
to move people from villages to towns. As the
Minidor engine is an IDI water-cooled engine,
it ensures that the noise level is significantly
lower than other diesel engines."
Commenting on the issue of pollution caused by
the vehicle, Mr Firodia said, "Even
though the government had asked all manufacturers
to observe Euro 1 emission norms, we have gone
a step forward and have enforced the Euro 2 emission
norms for our vehicles." He went on to
say, "Diesel being a higher pollutant
than petrol is a myth. As long as the emission
passes the Mass Emission Test (MET), its
safe. This test checks the emission of the
vehicle by subjecting it to various speeds."
Mr Firodia announced that from the month
of May all Bajaj vehicles would be fitted with
CNG kits. He admitted that the cost of the vehicle
would rise by Rs 10,000/-.
Mr Firodia also announced that the tractor
plant would be inaugurated in the month of May.
