On
the occasion of their Fourteenth Foundation Day
on March 26, 2001, Centre For Development of
Advanced Computing (C-DAC), announced the
launch of a new range of products and software,
covering areas as diverse as Health,
Language learning and the Sanskrit Authoring Tool.
According to Dr R K Arora, the executive
director of C-DAC, the idea behind the launch
of these products was mainly to see that the fruits
of the information technology get passed on to
all sections of society. The products launched
were Mercury, an Integrated Telemedicine Solution,
Web LILA (Learning Indian Languages through Artificial
Intelligence) Beta version and C-DAC's VYASA.
Mercury helps physicians to consolidate
the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
rapidly and also provides sophisticated Tele consultation
tools with integrated videoconferencing facilities.
Mercury helps maximize the utilization of precious
resources like bandwidth and, more importantly,
the Specialist time, keeping the operating costs
low; thus helping care providers build viable Telemedicine
Services.
With
the help of this software, a doctor in an remote
area can connect with a specialist doctor. The
patient avoids the discomfort of having to travel
to the specialist's office/clinic or having the
specialist visit the patient. C-DAC has already
tied up with three major hospitals in the country
and is in the process of tying up with other hospitals
in the country.
Web-LILA (Learn Indian Language Through
Artificial Intelligence) is the web version of LILA
Hindi, comprehensive software that facilitates learning
the language on the net, more systematically and
with ease, at the click of a mouse. This has been
made possible through such contemporary technologies
such as audio / video streaming on broad brand and
interactive on-line tutoring, simulating a virtual
classroom.
The
software will be available on indiabazaar.com,
which is a leading family portal that offers a
range of services like education, finance, fashion,
travel and shopping. The web lila software will
become a part of the online language learning
section of the site.
C-DAC's VYASA is a Sanskrit Authoring tool
that incorporates several features that will assist
Sanskritists in their creative & scholarly
pursuits. It has a large database / content
of all fourteen Vidyasthanas and provides online
readers for Bhagawad Gita, Vishnusahasranama and
so on.
The software assists in content, tools for processing,
hyper-linking references and so on. An editor
for classical and Vedic use, tools for morphological
analysis, tools for searching / sorting, lexical
updation, extraction/indexing of quotations in
commentaries / explanations, statistical tools
like concordance, Tamil-sorting order is also
considered.
