Integrated Decisions and Systems (India) Ltd.
(IDeaS Software), is a 100 % subsidiary of an
American Company, IDeaS Incorporated. Dr. Subash
Gupta, Mr. Sanjay Nagalia and
Dr. Ravi Mehrotra founded IdeaS Incorporated in
1989 in Minneapolis, USA.
The US based company started its operations by
providing revenue optimization systems to Airlines,
large transport firms and other transportation
companies. Claiming to be the pioneers in the
relatively new field of scientific decision systems,
the company developed innovative solutions for
companies such as AT & T Bell Labs, Texas
Instruments and Andersen Consulting.
The company soon developed contracts to develop
airline systems for Northwest Airlines and US
Air. Clients and industry experts quickly adopted
the acronym, IDeaS for Integrated Decisions and
Systems.
The Indian arm began operation in Pune in 1998
with five people and has grown to a strength of
forty-five people. Wing Commander VK Kala (Retd),
the Managing director of the Indian operations,
described IDeaS as basically a product company,
the product being 'e-yield', which is a business
solution for revenue management with its main
focus on the hospitality industry.
The company essentially helps clients to choose
the best mix of business to enable him to maximize
his revenue.
To explain their modus operandi, he further stated
that they take on any hotel that has a reasonable
demand and then configure a system for that hotel.
At the first stage they understand their business
and collect business related data from the hotel.
The data is analysed, business practices are incorporated
and a system is custom built for each hotel. The
entire process, from start to finish, can take
up to six months of time due to the complexity
of processes involved.
" There is no company such as ours in
the world as it is not easy to guarantee a hotel
of a four per cent increase in turn over. If we
fail to produce the results and the hotel de-installs
the system we re-pay the hotel its 4%,"
asserts Kala with confidence.
 Wing
Commander Kala does not seem to be unduly worried
about the recent slow down in the US economy as
the company's scope of operation is not restricted
to the US market alone. IDeaS market encompasses
the whole world and he reckoned that they were
planning to add more people in Pune.
With more then 150 hotels spread across 26 countries
in the world, such as the Hyatt Chain, Hilton
International and the Intercontinental, it is
evident that the company has definitely carved
out a niche for itself. Though the company has
not as yet tied up with any Indian hotel, talks
are in full swing with a leading Hotel Chain.
