Indra Networks Inc. announced that it has received
a total investment of US $ 1,000,000 from an independent
investor, Vikram Modak and Intel Capital. Indra
Networks, Inc. was founded by Anupam Bhide and
Monish Shah in September 2000. The two founders
have more than 25 years of leading-edge hardware
and software technology development experience
with industry leaders in the United States
such as IBM, HP and Oracle.
Indra Networks has its principal office in Santa
Clara, in Silicon Valley and a wholly owned subsidiary,
Indra Networks Private Limited, in Pune, India,
which is responsible for product development.
The investment will expand the company’s
research and development capabilities into developing
a box to front-end web servers that will speed
up the response time of busy websites.
Indra Networks develops exciting and innovative
technology for the next generation of Internet
infrastructure equipment. The primary product,
a Web Accelerator, will use novel techniques to
significantly speed up responses at busy websites
and reduce web server costs. The product will
be launched later this year.
The Web Accelerator will use Intel's IXP 1200
network processors at the core and will be focusing
on caching as well as enhancing TCP/IP performance.
The most significant performance improvement will
come from a proprietary FPGA being developed by
Indra Networks.
"Intel's investment will help boost the
development of the product line," said
Monish Shah, Chief Technology Officer, Indra
Networks. "Beyond the investment, however,
we stand to gain a great deal from Intel’s
insight into technology trends and introductions
to other companies in Intel Capital’s investment
portfolio."
"Intel Capital invests in companies that
helps drive the growth of the next generation
of Internet infrastructure," said Avtar Saini,
Director of South Asia, Intel. "With the
Internet becoming ubiquitous and relied upon in
our offices, our homes and everywhere in between,
the speed at which websites can deliver content
to an exponentially increasing audience is ever
more critical."
Speaking about Intel Capital, Mr
Sahni said, "Intel's strategic investment
program, focuses on making equity investments
and acquisitions to grow the Internet economy,
including Internet infrastructure, content and
services in support of Intel's strategic interests.
In India, Intel Capital invests through Intel
Pacific Inc., a subsidiary of Intel Corporation."
