An on-site satellite earth station for data
communication
 The
Pune Software Park is being promoted by The Indo-American
Capital and Technology Corporation (ICAT),
which is a U.S. based company. ICAT was set up
to promote high technology trade between India
and the western countries. As an initial thrust,
ICAT has chosen the trade of computer software
between India and North America. The concept to
establish a facility such as the Software Park
was originally proposed by ICAT in 1983.
The Pune Software Park Pvt. Ltd. is run
under the perfect synergy of the two groups, ICAT's
Technical know-how and Dalamal group's keen business
acumen. The park was basically set up to be a
computer software export zone primarily catering
to the American market.
Pune Software Park is a privately owned software
export facility providing world-class office space
and an on-site satellite earth station for direct
single-hop, data communication to the United
States and global connectivity through cable.
This earth station is operated and manned by the
state-owned VSNL. This is especially useful
as America represents the largest software market
in the world and India's largest export market
too. Besides America, the park facilitates links
to any country in the world.
 The
Software Park has an on site state-of-the-art
communications and facilities providing a direct
satellite link with the United States, and global
connectivity through cable. It is being set up
as an infrastructure to provide facilities to
companies who will in turn develop computer software.
It has a Direct Global Satellite Link,
which is capable of high-speed data communications.
The park has Video Teleconferencing facilities
to visually link with the global customers and
the software development teams at the Technology
Park. It also has Multiplexing equipment
to cater to the needs of multiple users who want
to access the satellite communications link for
data and video requirements.
The park has grown from 12,000 sq. ft. of workspace
in December 1997 to a whopping 70,000 sq. ft.
in less than six months. A six-fold growth!
