Ygyan Consulting was incorporated in Pune,
India as a consulting firm specializing in technology
services. The company began operations
in August 1998 by taking on projects for assessing
ERP readiness of companies in India. Ygyan
then began taking on SAP implementations for companies
in India.
Ygyan has successfully implemented SAP R/3 for
Messung group, which is one of the smallest groupsnot
only in the SME sector but also in the world to
implement SAP R/3 successfully. The Messung group
of companies are engaged in manufacturing, trading
& after sales service of PLCs, Servos, etc,
required for CNC machines and is a 100% indigenous
company, with a turnover of Rs 25 crore and a
total manpower of about 200 employees.
Explaining the significance of implementation
of SAP in MESSUNG Systems, Mr Anand Padmanabhan,
the MD of Ygyan said, "SAP
was considered to be an expensive software and
companies who had an annual turnover of more then
Rs 500/- crore were considered suitable for its
implementation. In fact , before Messung , we
had not touched companies which had a turnover
of less then 250 crores. The reason being that
implementation costs of SAP is High."
Messung Systems approached Ygyan in October
1999 to implement SAP in the company. According
to
Mr Padmanbhan, "Mr Farook Merchant (CEO
of Messung Systems), was very forward-looking,
and it was a bold and big decision for him to
decide to implement the software."
According to Mr Prakash Vasekar, the Project
Manager of Ygyan who was responsible
for implementation of the SAP Software, "the
challenge for us was to implement the software
in a cost effective manner in a small
company. The problem in the beginning for us was
that the people working in Messung were not at
all familiar with computers so it became a challenge
for us that they should be able to handle SAP
independently."
The feature of Client Strategy in SAP R/3 was
- Coverage of all the business processes of
Messung group.
- Economical
- Top officials' day-to-day involvement was
not required.
- Key users & consultants were able to manage
the implementation.
The modules to be implemented by Ygyan were Finance,
Controlling, Sales & Distribution, Production
Planning, Materials Management, Quality Management
and Service Management.
The implementation was done in a phased
manner, in the first company it took 9 months
and all the 3 Messung group companies it took
a total of 11 months for the software to come
live.
The CEO of Messung Systems, Mr Farook Merchant
when asked about the job Ygyan had done
said, "I am happy and satisfied with the
job Ygyan has done for us. The project management
was excellent; timetables were not only on paper
but were practically adhered too. Impossible tasks
were made possible by teamwork. Now we are enjoying
the fruits of it."
Asked how a small company like Messung went for
such an expensive software, he said, "it
was a difficult decision for us to go for SAP.
But we were lucky to get an implementation partner
like Ygyan Consulting. They have done a marvellous
job of implementation."
