A
huge amount of fake Indian currency is being printed
outside the country and circulated in the Indian
market, creating a lot of instability to the country's
economy. Enter Fake Identifier, a clever device,
manufactured, to assuage the situation.
Mr Anil Kale, an engineer from Pune, has
devised a highly affordable and technically simple
instrument to check the genuineness of currency
notes - an ingenious effort that can prove to
be a boon in busting the racket of counterfeit
currency notes in India.
The device is a simple torch with a magnifying
glass, which can visually enlarge an object ten
times (10x) and has a scale that is etched on
the glass. With the help of this instrument one
can measure the thickness of the silver thread
accurately. The instrument is on the lines of
an instrument that is used in various industrial
houses for gauging the width of the nozzles and
gauging the track width of Printed Circuit
Boards (PCBs). The micro printing in the genuine
currency and the width of the silver thread is
uniform in all the currency notes. Fake currency
notes cannot have micro printing however 'genuine'
they look.
A
counterfeiter first scans the genuine currency
notes. The scanner in turn converts the lines
in the form of dots. A highly advanced scanner
can scan the printing at a resolution of 3,000
DPI (dots per inch). The method used to print
counterfeit notes and genuine currencies are totally
different. The genuine currency notes are printed
by the lithographic method (block printing). The
fake currency, on the other hand, uses the method
of offset printing. With the help of the 'Fake
Identifier' one can see the dots and identify
the fake currency.
The existing methods to track down fake currency,
like the use of the Acid-ink pen, has become obsolete
since the paper used for the currency is easily
available. The UV rays technique also has its
drawbacks as the fluorescent particles inside
the note, which reflect light when put under these
rays, wear out after sometime.
So the next time you pick up a crisp bundle of
500 Rupees notes, remember to pick a 'fake identifier'
too.
