Armed Forces Medical CollegeThe Armed Forces Medical College is one of the premier medical colleges of the country. Primary training of medical undergraduates and post-graduates, dental postgraduates, nursing cadets and paramedical staff, are the multiple roles performed by AFMC.

The college is involved in conducting research in various medical subjects including the betterment of the performance of the Armed Forces both in war and peace, besides contributing largely to the morale of the fighting forces. The college has two large auditoria and a huge library having a collection of over 18000 books. The library subscribes to more than 270 international and national journals and has over 14000 bound journals.

Courses available: The various teaching programmes conducted are: the graduate wing, postgraduate training, the commissioning ceremony and nursing training. Graduate Wing: The graduate wing of AFMC is affiliated to the University of Pune and is recognised by the Medical Council of India for conducting a 4-and-a-half year programme leading to an MBBS degree.

To seek admission to the MBBS course, an objective type written examination conducted in 28 centres across India has to be cleared. This is followed by an interview. After the final selection, 130 students are admitted to the college, of which 25 seats are reserved for girls. All these students are liable to serve in the medical services of the Armed Forces on successful completion of MBBS. Postgraduate Training: Postgraduate (PG) training has been taken up since the inception of the college.

All courses are recognised by the University of Pune and Medical Council of India (MCI). The duration of the PG degree courses is 3 years, leading to the award of MD and MS degrees for medical/surgical specialties and MDs (HA) for hospital administration. There are PG diploma courses of 2 years duration, leading to a diploma in the concerned specialties.

   Nowrosjee Wadia College  
 

 

Nowrosjee Wadia CollegeOne of the first colleges to provide facilities for higher education, the Nowrosjee Wadia College was established in 1931. This highly acclaimed college is run by the Modern Education Society and occupies one of the city's prime locations. A row of impressive stone buildings houses the Science and Arts faculties, hostel blocks, mess and canteen. The college also has a separate assembly hall.

An extensive area of about three hectares is used for a playground and a Gymkhana Pavilion. Bordering one side of the playground is an open air stadium that can accommodate about 1200 students. The Ness Wadia College of Commerce, a relatively modern structure, is also situated inside the sprawling campus.
