Established
in 1885 by Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak, Pandit
Vishnushastri Chiplunkar, Principal Gopal Ganesh
Agarkar and Madhavrao Namjoshi under the banner
of Deccan Education Society (DES), Fergusson
College is known as one of the best colleges
in India. The old stone structure of Fergusson
College surrounded by lush greenery is a reminder
of the glorious past. Fergusson College started
with the very aim of retaining the spirit of intellectual
inquiry and has always played an important role
in moulding India's history.
The
college is named after Sir James Fergusson,
the then Governor of Bombay and the first
patron of Deccan Education Society. The college
has expanded lately with contributions from the
princes of Deccan, Kolhapur, Sangli, Janjira,
Miraj and the general public.
The college provides extensive facilities for
the students, like a well equipped library with
more than 2,00,000 books on various subjects.
Large play grounds and sports facilities, well
equipped laboratories, amphi theatre with a seating
capacity of 425 and so on. The college also provides
hostel facility for the students. There are four
blocks in the hostel for male students and two
blocks for female students. Admission to the hostel
depends on the academic merit of the student.
There
is an active NCC Wing working here under
Infantry Armoured Corps and Naval Wing.
The college also has subject associations, which
organise seminars, lectures by eminent persons
and educational tours and exhibitions related
to the subjects. The college also has an annual
magazine which contains articles and other contributions
from the staff and students of the college.
Scholarships
A number of open scholarships and endowed scholarships
and prizes are awarded to the deserving students
who fulfil the relevant terms and conditions.

1. MCS (Master's degree in Computer Science)

2. BCS (Bachelor of Computer Science) - Three

1. M.Sc. (Master's degree in Chemistry, Electronics
and Physics)
2. B.Sc. (Bachelor's degree in Botany, Chemistry,
Electronics, Geology, Mathematics, Photography,
Physics, Statistics and Zoology) - Three years.
Arts courses
1, M.A (Master's degree in Economics, English
and Marathi.) - Two years
2, B.A (Bachelor's Degree in: Economics, English,
French, Geography, German, Hindi, History, Marathi,
Mathematics, Philosophy, Psychology, Sanskrit,
Sociology and Statistics.) - Three years
