Dilip Oak's Academy is situated on Bhandarkar
Road. It has been coaching students for GRE /
GMAT / SAT and TOEFL since 1994. More than 2,000
students of this academy have sought admission
to various American universities and colleges
in a variety of fields such as Engineering, Computer
Science, Life Sciences, Humanities and Management
with most of them getting financial aid.
The services include Classroom Coaching for GRE
/ GMAT and SAT: 15-week GRE / GMAT / SAT courses
start in January and July. Classes 1½ hour and
4 times a week. 10-week GRE/ SAT courses start
in April and October.

Practice on computer-based tests is included
in the fee.
Correspondence Course for GRE
This course has specially designed detailed introductory
material for all sections, extensive practice
material with explanatory answers, 20 full-length
GRE papers, software for computer-based testing,
TOEFL and GRE application forms.

Classroom Coaching, Test Series

A 10-day course for TOEFL followed by a 6-day
Test Series is conducted every month.

The
Admissions Center for American Universities Services:
These services include procuring university brochures,
preparing important application documents (statements
of purpose, recommendation letters, transcripts),
picking universities to apply to, preparing application
packets, e-mail correspondence and internet browsing,
contacting professors for financial assistance,
providing e-mail addresses of students in the
universities applied to, visa counselling, air
tickets and foreign exchange, pre-departure orientation.

Adjacent to the British Council
Library is the famous Ranade Institute. The campus
houses the journalism and mass communication
building as well as the institute for foreign
languages. The degree course in journalism
is affiliated to the University of Pune. Graduates
from any discipline can apply for the course.
There is an entrance test. This is followed by
an interview.
Only if you clear both, you are admitted to the
course. Classes are held throughout the day. Subjects
include - photojournalism, advertising, mass comm.,
reporting, feature writing, etc. A graduate of
journalism can go in for a masters degree. Language
Courses : There are five languages taught, viz.,
German, French, Russian, Japanese and Spanish.
There are different levels of exams for the courses.
60 seats are available for each course. The student
must have finished schooling to gain eligibility
for these courses. For beginners there is a 'Certificate'
course. This course not only introduces the students
to the language but also gives an insight to the
culture of the language's native country. The
next course, on completion of the Certificate
course is the 'Diploma' course, which imparts
a deeper understanding of the language. One cannot
directly enrol for the Diploma level unless one
has secured a distinction in the respective subject
of qualifying exam.
One can further opt for the 'Advance Diploma'
on passing the Diploma level for mastering the
particular language. The duration for each of
the courses is one year. Enrolment is given for
only one course at a time. The reason being the
exams of all the languages of the same level are
held at the same time on the same day. However,
one can club two courses of different levels at
the same time. The course fee for the year is
Rs. 300 for any one course. The classes are conducted
in six different colleges on alternate days of
the week, and the timings of the sessions are
in the evening from 6.30 to 8.30. The morning
sessions are from 8.30 to 10.30. But there are
limited seats (20 for each course) and admissions
are sought on a first come basis. All courses
are affiliated to the University of Pune. Exams
are held only once a year, usually on the first
Sunday of April. The maximum marks for the exam
are divided into 20+80 form. There is a viva or
an oral exam held of 20 marks and a written of
80 marks. For the oral exam, the examiners are
recruited from the language's native country.
