- For a career in Hospitality |
 |
|

"An International career in hospitality begins
with us" proclaims the brochure. It all started
when Vilas and Anita Sawant, Directors
of the Metropolitan Education Group, a
fast growing group of educational institutes decided
they needed to initiate a more professional training
in the field of Hotel Management in the
city.
Aware that the industry was growing at a phenomenal
rate with close to 200 Hotels & Resorts slated
to come up in India in the next five to ten years,
a demand for trained executives in the Hotel industry,
would, they reckoned, inevitably follow.
Thus
was launched the Suman Metropolitan Institute
of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, a
joint venture between the Metropolitan Education
Group and the Suman Motels Group, reputed for
its chain of resorts across the country.
Situated just 7 Kms. from the city and spread
over a lush 5-acre campus in Hadapsar,
the Institute began operations in June 2000 with
the support of distinguished Hotel and Airline
industry personnel as part of the faculty. The
institute offers three courses: The Diploma in
Motel and Resort Management and Catering Technology
is a full time course of two years duration divided
into four semesters. The course fee is Rs.25,
000/- per Semester; The Diploma in Hotel Management
and Catering Technology is a one-year course that
costs Rs. 25,000/- and finally the Twin Diploma
course in International Hospitality Management
and Catering operations is a three-year full time
course divided into 6 semesters. The course fee
is Rs. 30,000/- per semester.
The
Institute, proclaimed as a 'Centre for world
class Hospitality Education', boasts of the
most advanced training kitchens, a professional
bakery, a training restaurant, spacious rooms,
a computer laboratory, a well-stocked library
besides amenities like a swimming pool and a well
equipped gymnasium. Says, Mrs.Sawant, "Our
students, from day one, are exposed to the nuances
of the operations of the industry. Apart from
the regular course content, the students are also
exposed to Recreation Management, Horticulture,
Public Relations and the Property Department."
Mrs
Sawant also revealed that the students attending
the course have to serve the mandatory three to
six month internship period at either a Three
Star or a Five Star Hotel. The comprehensive and
vigorous training does pay off as the institute
has an enviable record of having all their students
placed by the end of the course.
The course is, undoubtedly, expensive. The Institute
has, however, tied up with banks to provide loans
to students wishing to avail of this facility.
A boys hostel has been set up with plans to set
up one for girls as well. The criteria for eligibility
are that students should have passed their Higher
Secondary examination (10+2) with a good percentage.
