MAX MUELLER BHAVAN, PUNE

Max Mueller Bhavan, Pune offers intensive German language courses of seven weeks duration, six times a year. Learning is made interesting through film screenings and cultural events. The Institute has a well-equipped library with books, periodicals, CDs and audio and video cassettes. The library has an adjoining reading room. A multimedia room with self-study programmes facilitates practising and consolidating course material. In addition to the regular language courses, Max Mueller Bhavan offers courses catering to special needs, short-term courses and semi-intensive evening courses. The institute also conducts seminars and Teachers' Training Courses for the South Asian region.

Rules for admission
Admission to the courses is open to all above the age of 16. However, the minimum age for admission to the hostels is 18 years. All applicants wishing to enrol for a course, other than Elementary I, should note that admission to the level desired is only provisional, and depends on the results of an entrance test, which is held on the first day of the course (for students of Pune or Mumbai, the test is held the previous day at 9 am). The test determines the course level.

Short Term Courses
The Bhavan offers various short term courses of 3 weeks duration. These courses cater especially to those with previous knowledge of German and who wish to remain in contact with the language and inform themselves about the latest socio-political, technological or literary developments. Training of specific skills like conversation, reading or writing. These courses are offered throughout the year subject to a minimum of 12 participants per course. The courses commence along with the regular intensive courses. Duration: 3 weeks (intensive), 5 weeks (extensive) Fees: Rs. 1500/-.

Refresher Course
This course is offered at two levels, viz. for those having completed the Elementary level 2 or for those having completed Intermediate level 1. The aim of this course is to refresh the student's knowledge of German and practice all the four abilities - reading, writing, listening and speaking. The course is also offered as a Semi-Intensive course (5 weeks duration). Prerequisite: Elementary level 2 or Intermediate level 1.

Course in Creative
In this course, the participants are introduced to creative writing with the help of graded exercises. Prerequisite: Elementary level 3. Course in Role-play, Music & Films leading to Oral Expression. This course is structured to work on developing and improving oral expression with the use of films, music, skits and role-play. Special stress is given on pronunciation and enunciation. Prerequisite: Elementary level 1 or Intermediate level 1. Course in Reading: In this course, different techniques of reading are taught and practiced. A wide range of texts and strategies for understanding these texts are dealt with in detail. Prerequisite: Intermediate level 1.

Deutschland Kennenlernen
A course in Intercultural Understanding. You get to know Germany, the German way of life, and the Germans through projects, discussions and films with special stress on intercultural understanding. Prerequisite: Elementary level 1 (Multilingual course) Intermediate level 1 (course conducted in German).
