The National Multimedia Resource
Centre is a Multimedia Creations Group of C-DAC.
The NMRC is recognised by the Ministry of Information
Technology, Government of India. Set-up in the
Agriculture College Campus, Pune, NMRC has created
libraries of multimedia components and enabling
tools for efficient and cost effective multimedia
development. The Centre has designed various multi-media
and computer art training programmes addressing
people, students and professionals from various
fields:
#Diploma in Advanced Computer Arts
(DACA) is very popular among fine artists and
designers.
#The Low Cost Multimedia Creations training programme
(LCMC) offered by the centre is based on authoring
templates created for diverse multimedia applications.
#The Applied Computer Arts (ACA) course covers
advertising concepts, understanding of aesthetic
values and printing processes for Desk-Top-Publishing
work. *Course:Diploma in Advanced Computer Arts
(DACA) The course is suitable for students who
want to make a career as computer artists in advertising
or marketing or as consultants to architects,
interior decorators, fashion designers, tourism,
industrial design. The diploma course is conducted
twice in a year at Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore
and Pune. Duration: 21 weeks. Fees: Rs. 35,000.
Short term certificate courses *Duration: 9 weeks
(part time) Course: Low Cost Multimedia Creations
(LCMC) Course: Applied Computer Arts (ACA) Course
fees:Rs. 5000 to be paid by D.D. drawn on any
Nationalised bank in favour of C-DAC, ACTS and
payable at Pune. *Eligibility: S.S.C. or equivalent
is desirable for LCMC/H.S.C. or equivalent for
ACA (video-shooting professionals, photographers,
photo lab technicians, event managers, exhibition
organisers, teachers and even housewives can apply

The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and
Astrophysics (IUCAA) is situated on a plot of
land measuring 20 acres within the Pune University
campus. On its campus, IUCAA has a small core
of academic staff engaged in research, development
and teaching activities. The staff is involved
in the planning of pedagogical activities of the
centre both in Pune as well as those in the campuses
of universities and colleges all over the country.
IUCAA also plans the Centre's facilities and other
programmes including international linkages. IUCAA
offers PhD. programmes in Physics (including Theoretical
and Observational Astronomy, Astrophysics, Plasma
Physics & Technology, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences
and Space Sciences), Mathematics and Theoretical
Computer Sciences. Duration:
Five years (full time) residential programme.

M.Sc. in Physics/M.Sc..M.E./M.Tech in related
fields. Graduates with a B.E./B.Tech. degree will
also be considered at IIA, IUCAA, NCRA and RRI.
Candidates with M.Sc. degree in Mathematics will
also be considered at IIA. At IPR, Master's degree
in Physics/Applied Physics is necessary. #Mathematics:
M.Sc. degree in Mathematics or M.Sc./M.E./M.Tech
degree in related disciplines. # Theoretical Computer
Science:M.Sc./M.E./M.Tech. in Computer Science
or related disciplines. The candidate should have
an interest in the mathematical aspects of computer
science. At IMSc exceptionally talented B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech.
graduates in Physics/Mathematics/Computer Science
will also be considered for an early start in
a Ph.D. Entrance Test: Only Indian students can
apply.
*Course:Junior Research Fellowship The programme
is supported by UGC/CSIR. Duration: Four years
(full time-residential course). Fellowship: In
the first two years, it is Rs. 5000 per month.
In the next two years, the fellowship is increased
to Rs. 5,600 per month. Perquisites include per
year contingency packet of Rs. 10,000, free travel/medical/stationery/subsidised
food and House Rent Allowance given as per government
rules if the student has his own accommodation.
Admission:Every year during August-September,
IUCAA publishes post-doctoral positions to all
Universities and research institutions all over
the world. Vacation Student's Programme (VSP)
2000 Duration: During May-July (residential programme).
The students are expected to attend lectures and
submit project work. The programme wi ll
conclude with seminar presentations of the projects
by the participants, a written test and interview.
Those who perform well will be preselected to
join IUCAA as research scholars to do PhD. After
the completion of their B.Tech.B.E./M.Sc.degree.
Eligibility: Students who will enter the final
year of M.Sc. (Physics/Applied Mathematics/Astronomy/Electronics)/B.Tech./B.E.
courses are eligible to apply. Applications: The
applicant's academic record in plain paper must
be submitted with two letters of recommendation
from teachers and mailed directly to The Co-ordinator,
Core Programmes, IUCAA. *Course: Summer School
for students *Course: Refresher Courses for College
and University Teachers Both courses are held
every alternate year. Duration: During May-June
(full time) Applications: The next Refresher Course
for Teachers will be held in 2001. Applications
for the course must be accompanied by a recommendation
from the Head of Department at their Institute/University.
The next Summer School for Students will be held
in 2002.
