The School of Health Sciences
was established in 1989. In 1994, SHS introduced
a post-graduate programme in health sciences.
The SHS programme has a multifarious role which
includes teaching, training and research in the
area of health. Course: Masters Programme. Eligibility:
B.Sc. (any subject including Nursing/Home Science/Nutrition)
(Or) B.A. in Social Sciences / Economics / Sociology
/ Anthropology / Psychology; Degree in any branch
of Medicine; B.Pharm. of a recognised University
with minimum 50 per cent marks for open category
students and 45 per cent marks for reserved category
students. Selection: Admissions on the basis of
an entrance test conducted by SHS. Merit list
will be prepared giving equal weightage to entrance
test score and marks of degree examination. Reservation
of seats as per government rules.
*Course: Short Term Diploma Courses in Nutrition,
Dietetics, Environmental Health. Duration: One
and a half year (full time) Eligibility: B.Sc.
(Nutrition)/Home Science. Fees: Rs. 20,000 Compulsory
internship: Students have to go through a six
month practical programme.

Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) |

The National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA)
is a foremost centre for astrophysical research.
It is located in the Psune University Campus at
Ganeshkhind. The centre is part of the Tata Institute
of Fundamental Research (TIFR). The NCRA offers
post-doctoral fellowships in the fields of astronomy
and astrophysics, radio astronomy instrumentation,
image processing or software development. The
NCRA offers four programmes for higher studies
in Radio Astrophysics.
Selection: On the basis of the candidate's overall
performance in Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST)
and two interviews held in late June/early July.
JEST is held in coordination with nine participating
Institutes Those who do not want to appear for
JEST are advised to apply to Tata Institute of
Fundamental Reasearch (TIFR). Candidates who apply
to TIFR are required to appear for an entrance
test held by TIFR. Applications of successful
candidates alongwith the entrance test scores
are forwarded to NCRA. NCRA will also be holding
Walk-in Interviews in the month of February. These
will be held at 6 centres all over India.

*Course:The Research Scholar Programme. Duration:
Five years (Full time). Eligibility: M.Sc. (Physics)/B.E./B.Tech.
*Course:The Research Trainee Programme. Highly
motivated students with an outstanding academic
record and an aptitude for experimental work are
selected periodically as Research Trainees. Research
Trainees are employed at the Institute or Observatory,
within the programme. Duration: Seven year (full
time) Eligibility:M.Sc. (Physics)/B.E./B.Tech.
Stipend:Rs.5400 for first two years and Rs. 6000
after successful completion of graduate school
*Course:Student Training Programme (STP). Duration:
Six to eight weeks (Short term)/One year (Long
term)/Begins mid-May. Eligibility: Students studying
in different semesters of M.Sc. (Physics)/B.E./B.Tech.
Candidates are chosen on the basis of merit, expertise
and the kinds of projects available during the
year. Long term course is usually offered to students
from Pune Colleges.
*Course:Visiting Student's Research Programme
(VSRP). Duration: Six week (Summer course). Eligibility:
Motivated students in their pre-final year of
their M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. Applications should be
submitted in January-February. The course begins
in May-June. Selection: Students are preselected
on the basis of their overall performance in a
written test and Interview.
*Course:Summer School Certificate. Course Duration:
One month (every two years). Eligibility: Candidates
should have completed B.Sc./B.E./M.Sc. and should
be interested in astronomy. Course work: Candidates
will have to attend lectures and complete a small
project.
