The library was inaugurated in 1949 and is named
after Barrister M.R. Jayakar, the first vice-chancellor
of Pune University. A section in the library is
dedicated to Barrister Jayakar and contains the
2000 books he donated from his personal collection.
The Library has a collection of books, periodicals,
theses, maps, gramophone records, compact discs,
manuscripts and microforms. The library's software
database contains more than 50,000 catalogues.
Apart from issuing books/periodicals and reference,
the Library also provides facilities like reprographic,
documentation and Internet searches on selection
basis.

Reference Service:1100-1800hrs.
The Jayakar Library is open on all days except
Sundays.

Centre |

The
International Centre is a single window cell that
deals with all affairs relating to all international
students at the University. The centre works under
the overall control of the Executive Director,
who is also the International Students' Advisor.
The International Centre's main aim is to assist
scholars and contributes towards enhancing bilateral
relations through Indian Council for Cultural
Relations (ICCR). The centre organises an International
Cultural Festival for friendship by way of an
exhibition, food festival and cultural shows.
The Pune University offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate
and Research (M.Phil./ PhD.) courses in law, education
and general courses in Arts, Social Sciences,
Languages, Science and Commerce.
Academic Year : The academic year is from 15 June
to April/ May. Applications to any of the courses
(except Ph.D. programmes) should be submitted
for admission between 1st March and 15th June.
Accommodation: International students joining
postgraduate, research degree programmes can get
fully furnished single bed accommodation in the
International Hostels on the University Campus.
Cost:Rs. 1000 per month exclusive of food. Cost
of living: The approximate cost of living in the
city is about INR 80,000 per year. This estimate
is expected to cover accommodation, food, transport,
medical care and other necessities.
Visa and Residential permit: In order to study
in India, International Students must obtain a
Student's Visa endorsed to University of Pune.The
Visa must be obtained from the Indian Embassy/High
Commission/Consulate before leaving their home
country. International students are required to
register their names with the police in the Foreigner's
Regional Registration Office (FRPO) of the Commissioner
of Police, Pune, within seven days from arrival
in India.
