Spanning
over a 411 acre undulating campus in the suburban
part of the city, Pune University is one of the
foremost centres for research and teaching in
India. The university was established in 1948.
Formerly known as the Poona University, it was
established under the Poona University Act passed
by Bombay Legislature on February 10, 1948. The
main building served as the monsoon residence
of the Governor of the Bombay Residency. In early
1950, the plot was given on lease to the University
by the Government. The University has 41 departments
and conducts about 200 academic programmes in
arts, science, commerce as well as languages faculties.
Over 118 recognised research institutes for both
under-graduate and post-graduate courses in different
faculties are affiliated to the academia.The Pune
University conducts Undergraduate, Post-graduate,
Post-doctoral and Doctoral courses in the following
streams of study: Arts and Fine Arts, Science,
Commerce, Law, Engineering, Computer Science,
Ayurvedic Medicine & Homeopathy, Medicine,
Management, Linguistics, Pharmaceutical Sciences,
Mental, Moral & Social Sciences, Education
and Physical Education.

- Graduation: Three/five year degree course
- Post graduation:Two/three year degree course
- Post-doctoral:One/two year degree course
- Diploma courses:one/two year
- Advanced diploma courses:Three years
- Certificate courses: 1 year part time/full
time
Eligibility: Students should have completed
10+2 years of formal education in order to seek
admission to undergraduate course. Students
should have successfully completed a graduate
programme to seek admission to a post graduate
