Incorporated in 1960 in Bombay, Atlas Copco was converted into a public limited company in May 1972. They were the sole selling agent for the products of Sandvik Asia till 1989.

In India, its associate company Atlas Copco (India) has made its presence felt in almost every important activity - mining, construction, industrial and water well-drilling. It has set high targets in production and quality control, which it hopes to achieve with its strong technical foundations.

Relocating its compressor plant involved discontinuing production of compressor elements, which were then imported. Atlas Copco also set up a production line to make new centrifugal compressors. The company, however, expects demand for these products to be bleak until the economy revives.

Shift in focus towards volumes, product rationalization, increase in import substitution, cost reduction measures and the benefits that could accrue through the merger of Chicago Pneumatic could have a positive impact on the financial performance of Atlas Copco.

For one of the leading companies in compressors and mining equipment, the year was lacklustre. However, the turnover improved by 24.80 %.
