The world leader in design & turnkey supply
of pilot plants
Xytel
India was established in 1992 as a joint venture
between Xytel Corporation USA and Kvaerner
(Earlier Davy) Power Gas India Ltd. Xytel
Corporation, USA is the world leader in design
and turnkey supply of Pilot plants for Petroleum,
Petrochemical, Polymer and other industries. It
has successfully executed more then 800 projects
involving 175 customers in 21 different countries.
Kvaerner (Earlier Davy) Power Gas India is a premier
project/process engineering organization, serving
a wide range of petro chemical and metallurgical
projects to medium scale specialty chemicals,
drugs and intermediates.
"Xytel India makes hi-tech pilot plants
that are used for R & D purposes. The plants
that we set up promote technology and act as import
substitutes," remarked
Mr B Shankar, President of Xytel India.
He further elaborated, "We offer special
skills in implementation of chemical projects
at two levels. At one level, we design, construct
and commission the pilot plants that are used
for research and development on a turnkey basis.
The other level is to provide engineering and
construction services to mini plants or medium
size projects."
For
the pilot plants, which are normally skid mounted
and modular in nature, the company offers activities
from concept to commissioning. It develops initial
schemes; Process & Instrumentation diagrams
and size various equipments and components. The
company procures these components from specialized
Indian / Overseas vendors. The components are
then assembled together in order to construct
a pilot plant. The company incorporates appropriate
safety measures and ensures safe and reliable
operation of the plant by employing the state-of-the-art
control and data acquisition system. The PLC based
control system facilitates collection of accurate
data, and also its analysis and interpretation.
Once the pilot plant is ready, the testing of
the plant is done at Xytels spacious assembly
facility. The assembly shop is well equipped with
all the essential infrastructure and testing facilities,
which help Xytel to achieve high standards of
quality.
After the factory testing, the pilot plant is
dismantled, if required for transportation and
shipped to the client. Finally Xytel at the client's
location, commissions the plant. In case of a
mini plant, the construction, testing and commissioning
is carried out at the client's site.
Apart
from the above main activity, Xytel also undertakes
as a pre requisite for turnkey supply, a paid
study to prepare pre-engineering document to convert
bench / lab scale data into pilot / mini plant
design when very little information about the
process is available. The exercise is also useful
for estimating the project cost thus helping the
client arrive at an investment decision.
In the last seven years Xytel has designed and
built many cost effective pilot and mini plants
for some of the leading private and public sector
companies of the country. The public sector Indian
Oil Corporation is, in fact, the biggest client
of Xytle, which has built nine pilot plants for
IOC's Faridabad research center from its Pune
Unit. Said a satisfied Mr Shankar "This
year we got four of IOC's six jobs." According
to Mr Shankar, "Xytel India provides the
vital link between R & D and industry. Our
designs are highly customized. In fact, in the
initial years of our operations, we were competing
with foreign majors in India. Today we are planning
to move into the Middle East market to compete
with them there."
Xytle India has 25 employees on its rolls who
are mostly engineers from the Chemical, Instrumentation,
Software and Mechanical stream.
