Mather
& Platt (India) was jointly promoted by
Mather & Platt, UK, and Greaves Cotton in
August 1959 as a private limited company. It went
public in April 1961. It set up a factory at Chinchwad,
Pune, to manufacture calendar bowls for the textile
industry.
The company expanded its business operations
and undertook the manufacture of textile finishing
machinery, sizing machinery, stenter clips, centrifugal
pumps, electric motors, food processing and canning
machinery and fire protection and detection equipment.
In June 1978, Greaves Cotton transferred its
entire shareholding to Mather & Platt, UK.
The entire business and undertaking in India of
Mather & Platt, UK, was transferred to and
vested in the company to make it Indianised. The
company was reconverted as a public limited company
in June 1979.
In March 1990, the company went public. The fluid
division of the company received the ISO 9001
certification.
In 1995-96, the company received a large order
for 36"/36" horizontal split casing
pumps for Calcutta Municipal Corporation and IFFCO
Phulpur expansion project. During the same year,
various new products were introduced like lime
oil extraction plant, chilli processing, mushroom
processing, canning etc.
In
1998-99, it increased the installed capacity of
centrifugal pumps to 3,079 nos. During the year
1999-2000, under the technical collaboration with
Boop and Reuther, Germany the company manufactured
valves at par with the international standards.
