Sandvik Asia was founded in 1960 through
negotiations between the
Indian Government and Sandvik, Sweden.
It achieved a commendable position in the carbide
tool segment through in-depth research and development.
In 1994, the company restructured itself
into three product divisions - Coromat, Rock Tool
and Hard Material. It introduced tooling products
like U-max end mills, die-making tools, coronite,
cermets, U-lock and Q-cut inserts, T-max 290 cutters,
wavelike inserts, etc.
In the same year, Sandvik started promoting salpunite
guide rolls directly to new markets in Southeast
Asia and achieved a breakthrough in the export
of latest grade of hard material and other intermediate
powders. New markets were developed in USA,
UAE, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
The Company plans to set up a composite chemical
plant near Chiplun, Maharashtra, for recovery
of cobalt metal, tungsten carbide and other non-ferrous
metals from sludge, scrap, cathodes, etc. In May
'95, the company received the ISO 9001 certification
from RWTUV, Germany.
During 1996-97, the company entered into a seven
year technical collaboration agreement with Sandvik
AB for availing of the latest Sandvik technology
/ know-how for designing and manufacturing of
various cemented carbide cutting tools and cutting
tool systems.
Last year Sandvik invested in establishing a
joint venture project, Titex
India Pvt Ltd in collaboration with a German
company, Gunther & Co for the manufacture
of HSS range of precision tools and solid carbide
project. Sandvik Asia has a 25 per cent stake
in this company. As per the global reorganisation
the Rock Tools Division has been renamed as Sandvik
Tamrock and some of Tamrock's capital equipment
has been incorporated into Sandvik Asia's product
programme.

tools and tooling systems for the metal working
industry
Sandvik Tamrock - Construction and Mining
equipment, Rock Drilling and Coal Mining Tools
Sandvik Hard Materials - Wear components
for the engineering industry, Carbide Rolls for
the steel industry, Cemented carbide blanks for
die makers.
Sandvik Steel - Tube, Wire and Strip, Steel
for machining, Fittings and Flanges, Welding Consumables.
Sandvik Saws and Tools - Handsaws and Saw
blades, wide range of tools for engineering, construction,
metal cut-off, forestry and horticulture applications.
Also wrenches, spanners, pliers, pruning tools
and guide bars and saw chains for logging machines
and chain saws.
Sandvik Process Systems - Complete systems
for automatic goods sorting and process plants
for chemical and food processing industries, based
on steel conveyor belts.
