HOMEMADE COSMETIC CARE
  • Cleansing Scrub

Mix 1/4 cup Multani Mitti (Fuller's earth), 1/4 cup dried orange peel and 2 tablespoons sandalwood powder/oatmeal. Take one teaspoon mixed with water and work it into the skin, rinse it with warm water. Use every other day.

  • Cleansing Mask

Mix 1/4 cup Multani Mitti (Fullers earth), some tomato pulp and yoghurt in a little cucumber juice and apply on face for 15-20 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water. You should apply this mask at least twice a week.

  • Toners

Mix a tablespoon of lemon juice or a tablespoon of malt vinegar in a glass of water. Cabbage or cucumber juice mixed with rose water is an excellent toner as well. Add a pinch of alum and two drops of spirit of camphor. Keep a bottle of any of these toners handy for frequent use during the day.

  • Toning Mask

Make a paste of one beaten egg white, one tablespoon yoghurt and multani mitti and apply on the face till it dries. Later rinse off with clear water. Use this toning mask at least twice a week.

SKIN CARE FOR DRY SKIN

The dry skin is either oil or moisture-dry. The skin-care regime should emphasize the moisturising and nourishing routines. The dry sensitive skin should be cleansed with a cold cream and alcohol-free skin fresheners to remove the cream. After cleansing, the skin needs a lubricating emollient or a moisturiser should be used while the face is still damp after a wash.

  • Dry Skin Cleanser

Warmed milk cures roughened skin. It can be added to oatmeal, or almonds. Try this milk lotion. Warm a cup of milk and add 1 tsp glycerine, 1/4 teaspoon bicorbonate of soda and 1/4 teaspoon borax till all three dissolve.

Melt together in a bowl, 12 tablespoons white vaseline (petroleum jelly), 4 tablespoons baby oil and 1 tablespoon bees wax. When heated, remove from fire. Add a few drops of rose essence and store in a jar and use to clean face. Remove the cleanser with a damp cotton.

  • Moisturiser

Mix 3/4 cup of rose water, 1/4 cup of glycerine, 1 teaspoon of vinegar and 1/4 teaspoon of honey and keep it in a bottle. Use it regularly after cleansing.

  • Nourishing Mask

Mash a banana and beat in a teaspoon of salad or vegetable oil. Brush it on the face and leave it on for twenty minutes till it dries. Then rinse it off. This nourishing mask should be used once a week at least.
