Ranjana Gupta's exquisite outfits have
been around for the past 17 years, and now with
son Shishir helping her out, designs from RGEE's
can only get more exotic.
"I
started with exporting rice, large consumer durables
and have finally ended up as a Fashion Designer,
" says Shishir who is also the Vice President
of the company. This 28-year-old entrepreneur
returned to Pune a year ago after completing a
seven year stint at a garment design and manufacturing
export house in Delhi. Shishir has also
completed a short course at NIFT.
He says, "It is very interesting working
with garments as compared to consumer durables
and rice exports . Everyday there is something
new to work on, like different fabrics, designs,
cuts and styles. It is also a very challenging
job as one has to cater to a variety of tastes."
Ranjana Gupta's attires are available at boutiques
like Benzer, Paneri, Friendship
and Shringar in Mumbai and are very popular
with socialites in Pune, Mumbai and Delhi. There
are plans to open an outlet in the city soon.
They have, of late, started supplying
their creations to all eight retail outlets of
Shoppers' Stop. Shishir takes care of the
marketing and designing while Ranjana makes sure
that the final creation lives up to the high standards
she has set for her products. They have a dedicated
team of twelve, including tailors working for
them.
RGEE's collection for this season feature
114 different colours and shades, and different
kinds of hand and machine embroidery. Who decides
the colours, fabrics and cuts? Enlightens Shishir,
"An international agency known as 'The fashion
forecasting agency' provides the information with
regard to the designs. Four leading designers
come together to forecast the colours, styles
and fabrics, which are done three seasons in advance.
Though we have reputed designers like Rohit
Bal and Ritu Beri who have made a mark
in the international fashion arena, we are not
trendsetters; we are followers. The attitude will
soon change as the designers as well as the models
are becoming bolder."
Innovating on the standards set by fashion gurus,
the Mother and Son team have, on display , an
exquisite range of salwaar kameezes and kurtas
in both traditional and western styles in a range
of fabrics including georgettes, pure and synthetic,
cotton silk and jute.
