"Mind your head", warns a voice
to the uninitiated person walking through the just-about-4-feet
entrance of Apna Ghar. This eating joint
is located right opposite to the International
Book House in Deccan Gymkhana. Started by Nana
Thorat to cater quality snacks to college students
and office-goers at affordable rates (all items
are priced between 4 to 6 rupees), this little desi
fast food joint has made quite a mark.
Every
morning Nana serves people standing at the entrance.
You find people queuing to eat the delicacies.
Their favourites are Pohe, Sabudana Khichdi,
Misal, Upeet and of course the superb Shira.
In fact die hard fans of this joint make it a
point to drop in for a bite, come what may. Apart
from the delicious food, the nice thing about
this place is cleanliness and efficient service.
"The
credit for this place's popularity goes entirely
to my boys, " says Nana ducking off any
praise about the quality of food and excellent
service. Perhaps Nana's attitude is also reflected
on the boards on the walls with Bhojan
mantra and Gayatri mantra.
Look out for Apna
Ghar next time when you're walking down near Deccan
bus stop. Chances are that you will definitely
miss this little joint tucked in between shops.
But if you have found it, it's a discovery. And
don't leave the place before you sip the delicious
Taak - chilled buttermilk with ginger,
jira, salt and assorted spices. You are
guaranteed to be hooked for a lifetime.
Open between 7:30
am to 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm everyday.
It's closed on Sundays.
Address : Opp.
International Book House,
