 Alfa
Laval India Ltd (ALIL) is part
of the Tetra Laval Group - a global
organization, which is a synergetic outcome
of the merger of Tetra Pak, world
leader in liquid food packaging, and Alfa
Laval, having more than a century of food
processing expertise.
The Company
was started in 1937 when it was incorporated
as Vulcan Trading Company - a small trading
house in Bombay. In 1961, a manufacturing
base was set up at Dapodi, Pune, for the
manufacture of plants and equipment for
Food, Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries.
In 1965, it
merged with Alfa Laval to become Vulcan
Laval Limited. In 1982, a new manufacturing
base was set up in Satara (116 Kms south
east of Pune). Production commenced initially
with the manufacture of milk cans. Soon
Plate Heat Exchangers of various sizes and
materials started rolling out of the factory.
In 1987, the
Company changed its name to Alfa Laval (India)
Limited. In 1993, Tetra Pak, the packaging
giant, and Alfa Laval merged in Sweden and
ALIL once again changed its identity.
 Today,
it is half-a-century plus, multi-product,
multi-location engineering Company with
a turnover of more than Rs. 2 billion. With
strong manufacturing bases at Pune and Satara,
it is contributing to industries such as
Dairy, Food Processing, Marine, Power,
Breweries, Distillery, Paper and Pulp, Edible
Oil, Chemical, Pharmaceuticals and so
on. It does business through an All-India
Sales Network, monitors progress through
a top-of-the-line Customer Service Centre
in Thane and boasts of an ultra modern Technology
Centre. Recently, it has acquired Group
Manufacturing Unit status (GMU) and is one
of the three units in the Tetra Laval Group
worldwide with plate pressing facilities.
Customer
Service Centre
Managed by a fully dedicated team of
experienced professionals, the centre located
in Thane, is equipped with all facilities
required for servicing Alfa's various equipment.
It also houses an inventory of a wide range
of spare parts needed to service the large
installation base of Alfa products all over
the country.
A sophisticated
computer network enabling on-line information
to ensure planning, availability and quick
delivery of spare parts supports the centre.
Quality Assurance
and Control
The Company has a totally independent
Quality Assurance Cell reporting directly
to the Managing Director. It has one of
the best laboratories, modern standard rooms
and state-of-the-art testing equipments.
It is also responsible
for laying down internal performance and
guaranteed parameters as per the requirements
of the clients and external inspection agencies.
It also conducts quality audits, project
site audits, vendor evaluation and field
failure analysis. It undertakes the training
and education of Quality Control personnel,
Vendors, Site Engineers and Customers.
