BFL has emerged as a major supplier of automotive
engine and suspension components in the
domestic and world markets.
Bharat Forge Ltd is a flagship
company of the Kalyani Group. Itwas
established in 1961, when the Indian Automotive
Industry was more or less of imported kits
and ancillaries which were scarce and inadequate.
The 70s witnessed a spurt of new companies
in the Indian forging industry. For Bharat
Forge it was a period of consolidation and
growth. With the largest integrated facilities
in Asia, a status truly reflected in the
global clientele, and an unbeatable track
record, Bharat Forge emerged the undisputed
leader - the first name in forgings in India.
In
the 80s, the emphasis on diversification
saw Bharat Forge growing from a primarily
automotive ancillary to an engineering enterprise,
while retaining a pioneer status in forging.
It is one of the three largest and technologically
most advanced commercial forge shops in
the world. BFL is the first
forging company in India to be approved
for QS 9000 and ISO 9002 by UL, USA.
Technology has always been the key driving
force for their international success. Earlier
they sourced technology from SIFCO, USA
and Tokyo Drop Forge, Japan for
forging, and Jidosha Buhin Kogyo, Japan
for machining.
The installation of highly automated forging
lines have enabled the manufacture of precision
forging and forgings of 15 to 250 kg, a
capability unique in this part of the globe.
BFL manufactures over 2000 kinds of forgings,
machined components and aggregates for the
automotive and other engineering industries.
Exports are very crucial to the company,
as they serve to neutralise the impact of
downturns in the domestic market. BFL's
experience in manufacturing for exports
has helped the company to develop new products
and manufacturing processes, providing competitive
advantage in the domestic markets as well.
BFL has emerged as a major supplier of automotive
engine and suspension components in the
domestic and world markets. The company
currently manufactures about 1,000,000 crankshafts
and 350,000 front axles for trucks per annum.
BFL now commands a 55 per cent market share
in the USA for front axles for heavy trucks.
BFL has made major breakthroughs by securing
orders from prestigious international OEMs
like Daimler Chrysler and Motoren
und Turbinen-Union (MTU) in Germany,
and Volvo in Sweden. The company
has made conscious efforts over the last
few years to increase its customer base
in Europe, Latin America and South-East
Asia, in addition to the USA.
Objective of BFL is to provide customer
satisfaction through excellence in product
quality, response time and price competitiveness
and strive to be a market leader.
Bharat Forge's mantra: "The Quality
Assurance Process Guarantees Product Quality".
