on 1st April 19'76 in Mumbai, Garware-Wall
Ropes was promoted by Garware Filament
Corporation and Wall Ind. Inc, US.
In 1987, Wall Ind. divested its shareholding,
which was taken up by the promoters.
The Company manufactures synthetic yarn, cordage,
twine, fishnet webbings & polypropylene
multi-filament yarn. A rights issue was in
the market in November 1995, to partially
finance the manufacture of synthetic cordage
and fishnet webbings at Wai and the expansion
of its capacity in Pune.
The
company has entered into a technical collaboration
with Toyo Kogyo, Japan, to manufacture fishnet
webbing machines. It has decided to set
up a subsidiary in the US. It also plans
to promote satellite strategic business
units in various states like Kerala, Tamil
Nadu, etc.
The Company is finalising
a joint venture with a Danish company to
manufacture braided wires. It has decided
to diversify into the manufacture of heat-resistant
rubber tension tapes and threads used in
the garment industry. A plant at Manchester
belonging to Rotunda, UK, was dismantled
and re-erected in Wai, March 1996.
In the domestic market,
the Company has made concerted efforts in
reaching out to the end-users have not only
resulted in the improvement of market share,
but also enhanced the brand equity enjoyed
by the Company products.
The
Company's Export growth has increased. The
Company has opened a branch office in the
US which enables it to obtain a strong
foothold in the growing American market.
The Company plans to grow in the areas of
valued added products like sports nets and
other webbing products.
The company was awarded
the Top Exporter Awards for the year 1999-2000,
both in "Fishnets/Fishing Line"
and "Ropes" by 'The Plastics Export
Promotion Council'.
