Incorporated in 1946, Kirloskar Oil
Engines Ltd. (KOEL) is managed
by Atul Chandrakant Kirloskar. One
of the largest manufacturers of internal
combustion diesel/petrol engines in India,
KOEL manufactures engines of various
horse power ranges, with varied applications
in power generation, the marine industry,
agriculture, locomotives, mines, Defence,
etc. It also manufactures all types of oil
engines and thin-walled bi-metal bearings
and bushes. It is the largest diesel engine
manufacturer in India. KOEL manufactures
Diesel Engines, ranging from 3 BHP to 7200
BHP. The main applications are Generating
sets, Pump sets, Construction, Mining, Marines,
Material Handling, all Filters, Tractors
and Defense for support and tactical vehicles.
The company's factories are located in
Khadki, Pune and Ahmednagar. Its
customers include TELCO, Simpson &
Company, Maruti Udyog, Premier Auto and
Ashok Leyland. It has a countrywide
distribution and service network for the
sales and service of its products, and its
sales are routed through the marketing division
located at Pune. The products are sold under
the trade name Kirloskar. KOEL exports diesel
engines, pump sets, generating sets and
agricultural equipment to more than 60 countries.
It also has a well-established network of
sales and service centres for its products
in more than 30 countries.The Company has
been awarded the ACMA Quality Award for
outstanding performance of its products.
It has also been awarded ISO 9001 certificate
from ABS Quality Evaluation, US, for its
quality management system for design, production
and servicing of diesel engines, bearings
and valves. KOEL has diversified into the
business of power generation and has started
a power project in Karnataka.
KOEL has an independent R & E unit
with highly qualified and experienced engineers.
The R & E is approved by the department
of Science and Technology, Government of
India. Their Engineers have presented several
papers in International Conferences.
It has excellent capability of designing
and developing new models, Engine bearings
and Engine valves for various applications
to suit the customers' requirements and
expectations. The research is done in following
areas: Basic Engine Design, Application
Engineering, Use of non-conventional energy
and fuels.
KOEL has large engines plant at Nashik
which is located 175 Kms from Mumbai.
In Nashik, they manufacture Diesel engines
ranging from 2400 BHP to 7200 BHP. These
engines are manufactured in collaboration
with SEMT Pielstick France, who is
the leaders in Diesel engine technology
worldwide.
