The Cardio Thoracic

The Cardio Thoracic Centre of the armed forces
is a super specialty hospital which provides treatment
for chest and heart disorders. This hospital has
around 400 beds, out of which 10% are reserved
for civilians. The cost of heart surgeries is
almost a quarter of what one would pay in any
other hospital in the city. One pays Rs 35,000
for a bypass surgery that includes the cost of
stay, treatment, drugs etc. Civilians who want
to avail of these facilities would be advised
to contact the Commandant for details.

The Artificial Limb Centre

The Artificial Limb Centre was set up by the armed
forces to deal with the increasing number of its
men who were losing limbs in conflicts. Attached
to the Command Hospital, the center has been treating
a number of amputation victims. The Centre not
only treats men belonging to the armed forces,
but also civilians. It has an attached workshop
wing where trained engineers and mechanics fit
specially built limbs to meet specific requirements.

The Sancheti Hospital

This
102-bed hospital specializing in the Orthapaedic
sciences provides all the facilities for trauma
and accident care. The team of doctors headed
by Dr Sancheti have done pioneering work in the
area of hip replacement surgery, so much so that
the hospital attracts a lot of foreigners who
come here for joint replacement surgery.

The Cipla Cancer and AIDS
Foundation

The Cipla Cancer and AIDS Foundation has set up
a hospice in Warje, Pune, for the care of terminally
ill cancer and AIDS patients. The Centre strictly
adheres to the policy of not giving any false
hopes and not making any false promises. As far
as possible, the patients and the relatives are
told the truth at the time of admission. They
are made aware that the Centre cannot offer a
cure. Patients can get admission for a few days
when palliative care specialists attempt to relieve
the painful symptoms and improve the quality of
life. Simultaneously, the relative is trained
in the proper care of the patient at home.
