Sassoon Hospital

The
largest and oldest general government hospital
in the city, Sassoon's trauma and emergency care
facilities are one of the best in the city. The
hospital has all the facilities required, but
the place is better known for its treatment of
burn victims. Sassoon's psychiatry care is also
counted among the best in the country. Dr Mohan
Agashe, a well-known psychiatrist, is the head
of the Mental Health Deparment. Treatment is almost
free, but the line is long and one may have to
wait for a while for getting treated. It is located
close to the Pune Railway Station.

Command Hospital

The oldest Military hospital in the country, Command
Hospital has all the super specialty branches,
except heart and chest, which are provided by
the chest hospital. The hospital has an excellent
emergency treatment unit. The ophthalmology unit
has made a mark in the use of intra optical lens
treatment in the country and in the treatment
of cataracts. Though meant for the use of armed
forces personnel and their dependents, it has
a limited number of civilian in patient beds.
Treatment to the latter is provided at a very
nominal cost. However, it is recommended that
a civilian be ready to wait, as the line is long.
Civilian out-patients pay Rs. 5 per visit to see
a specialist.
