Satyajit Shinde is a 23 year old winner of
the State Chhatrapati Award for the year
1998-99 in the sport of Malkamb.
Poonabest caught up with Shinde
and asked him on his views on the sport and his
feelings on receiving the Award.
What was your first reaction on winning the award?
I was totally shaken and surprised at the announcement.
At the time of the announcement I was appearing
for my Third B.Com. examination.
How long have you been taking part in the sport?
I was introduced to the sport at the age of six
by my father, and was an active member and use
to practice. But due to the recurrence of an old
back injury I retired from the game last year.
What made you choose sports?
My entire family has been in sports. My father
was a Kabaddi player in his college days. My mother
was a constant support for us during my childhood
days, and she would take me and my sisters to
all the events. Both my elder sisters are National
Kho-Kho Players and one Brother in law has won
the Chhatrapati Award for Kho-Kho in 96-97.
What kind of Institutional and personal support
have you received?
The inspiration and support that I received in
the beginning was from the Maharastra Mandal and
its Secretary Mr. Ramesh Damle. The greatest personal
support I received was from Mr Yogesh Yeole and
Mr Jitendra Khare, who always advised me to be
a winner all the way.
What are your future plans, now that you have
retired from the game?
I would like to bring some professionalism in
the game, to give a boost to the players. I will
also like to get some more benefits to the players
like those enjoyed by other sports.
