In
1990, the Maharashtra Government started feasibility
studies for a new expressway to be operated on a
toll basis. The project was initially estimated
at Rs. 1146 crores. The Maharashtra State Road Development
Corporation Limited (MSRDC) was granted the Mumbai
Pune Expressway project in March 1997 on a "Build
Operate and Transfer" (BOT) contract, with permission
to collect toll for 30 years.Tunnel:
There
are five four-lane-wide tunnels. Their total
length is 5724 meters. The tunnels have ventilation,
lighting and fire-fighting equipment.
Toll Plazas:
Toll will be collected at these locations from vehicles
using the Expressway. Rates will depend on the distance
covered by the vehicles. Minimum rates are given
below.
