| Melody
Makers (Pune's own International Band) |
Melody Makers, a name so apt for a group striving
to rebuild people's homes by contributing it's share
to various charity, small-savings, drought-relief
and flood-relief organisations and bringing melody
in people's lives. An institution known for discovering
and promoting new talent was basically formed for
raising funds for the flood-affected people due
to the Panshet dam burst in 1961. With the backing
of great film stars like Amitabh & Jaya Bachchan,
Shashi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, the late Raj Kapoor,
Rajendra Kumar and veteran musician and singer late
Kishore Kumar, Melody Makers still continues to
conduct charity shows and glamorises the occasion
by having these well-known film personalities as
invitees.
Melody Makers retains its unique flavour and identity
by performing not just in front of a national audience
in Indira Gandhi Stadium (New Delhi), Netaji Stadium
(Calcutta) and Shanmukhnanda Hall (Mumbai) but also
in front of an international audience in stadiums
like Lincoln Hall, Madison Square Gardes (New York),
Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena, Wembley Conference
Hall (London), etc. With the years, the group has
undergone many changes. Now the group is managed
by Mr Praveen Kumar, the son of founder Mr Ashok
Kumar Saraf. Many new and young talented artists
have come up to replace the old but the quality
and the beauty of their music has remained the same,
Mr Vijay Salvi who is associated with Melody Makers
for the past 36 years is the sole person engaged
in taking music groups to the United Kingdom. He
is one of the renowned musicians and inspired by
this, his son Siddharth is in the UK on some music
assignments. The group has had the honour of performing
before the President of India, late Shri V V Giri,
ministers and other dignitaries. They are widely
acclaimed by all sections of people, press and critics
for their sophisticated presentation, excellent
teamwork, lively and ever fresh performance.
