Rock Bands
Pune, the Oxford of the East, is all set
to join the western cultural extravaganza!
Girls are getting into skirts instead of
salwaars, guys are in ponytails, and citizens
are keeping up with the times, while remaining
grounded to Indian values.
Popularly known as the Hard Rock Cafes
of Pune, the Jazz Garden and the restaurant-cum-teenage-hangout,
Jaws, have a number of different rock bands
like the Strange Brew, Mystic
Frost, Fusion Ensemble, Inertia,
Airways, Switch and Colors playing
every Friday and Saturday night. With instruments
like the drums, the bass guitar and the
keyboard played in harmony, these bands
give enthralling performances.
Switch is one of the famous rock
bands of Pune.
Strange Brew is a band of four.
With only a very limited number of instruments
they have performances all over India. The
band has its own composition.
Mystic Frost, as the name suggests
is the first and the only band, which has
performed at the high altitudes, in the
Himalayas amidst snow. It's again a band
of four. The band formed by the guys of
Pune is also famous in the United States.
Their upcoming album is Individuals.
It will soon be released all
over the world.
Fusion Ensemble is a rock-band with
a difference! The band plays a combination
of the flute, the drums, the tabla and the
keyboard at the same time, thus creating
a fusion of Indian and Western music. The
uniqueness of the band is that they play
compositions of only the 1980s and 90s.
Inertia, a band of four teenage
girls, popular as the Spice girls of Pune,
has carved itself a niche in the world of
music.
