Poona isn't just another city anymore. It is a learning hub,
an infotech giant, a health city, a retail city and is also one of the fasted
emerging metros. It's finally arrived at its self created destination. These days
the city is thronged with multi-cultural students jazzing in and out of its very
'Poona special' coffee bars and chat shops. It seems to offer the best kicks
in the west, away from the tiring spin of southern cities: Bangalore and Hyderabad. This
17th century Maratha capital is a captivating symphony of Maharastrian Culture
and Modern Venture-- making the city just more than adorable; lovable. Ranked
amongst the top ten 'city markets' in India, it houses four million people across
240 sq kms rigged by the Sahyadri hills. Last year Poona registered a phenomenal
75 per cent growth in IT-enabled services, higher than Mumbai. Sometimes we want
to wonder if this is the same controversial city, home to the Osho commune, the
defence base. The district entertainment tax office received over 40 applications
for building Cineplex's. It is also a city that produces more two-wheelers than
any place on earth. It's also close to Infosys Chief Narayan Murthy's heart, as
it was a small apartment in the city from where he rooted Infosys. Symbiosis,
the country's largest private university is also the heart attraction of this
landscape beauty. The city has got the drive, the people -- now it has the
attention too. The one city in India where the culture, the people and the locale
jive perfectly with each other.
