Aaeega, its Mother's day
Mothers of today have come a long way. We don't
see too many of them bent over sewing machines or
rustle up
'Gajar Ka Halwa ' at the drop of a hat. The self-sacrificing
Mother may be passé, Motherhood, however, is alive
and kicking.
We spoke to a few Mothers and asked them to share
their thoughts on Motherhood. Here's what they had
to say.
Urvashi
Kadam, CEO, Capital Images
" Its nice that mothers are being honoured
once a year. For all mothers whether they are working
or are house wives, her children are top priority
and Mothers are always working towards the welfare
of the children all through their life."
Sudha
Hattiangdi, a Conversational English Teacher
" The role of the mother is to make the
child as independent as one can and not make the
child tied to her apron strings. To me mother hood
is the best experience, that no one should be deprived
of."
Viji,
Proprietress, This & That Boutique
"I can never profess to be my daughter's
pal, I do not wish to be one Nor am I the conventional
Mother overflowing with maternal instincts. All
I can say is it warms my heart to know there is
Kanika around and feels good to see
her shapeup to be good daughter."
Manju
Kamath, Housewife
"The Mother and Daughter equation that
I had with my mother is not even on a comparable
level with the equation I have with my daughters
today. O.... with the passing of time, how everything
changes...Today's buzz word of Consumerism has taken
it's toll on relationships at home. But, at any
given time, there is no denying the blindness, the
unreasonableness and the purity of love meted out
by the Mother and the Mother alone. It is unconditional
and in my opinion, every other form of love finds
it's roots here."
R.Rajesvari,
Teacher
"I have been a mother and a teacher for around
35 years. In both roles, I had to set examples.
I often prayed to God to give me the strength to
do what I believed in. I strongly believe in handling
children with love and care. Children are touched
by these gestures."
Sheela
Padmanabhan, Corporate Advisor, Sakal Group
"It feels great to be a Mother and is a
gratifying feeling to know you have brought two
good human beings into this world. But it is undoubtedly
a lifetime committment. One can never stop worrying
about one's kids. The responsibility never ends.
The kid's up's and downs become yours with your
lives almost entwined. One has to be prepared for
Motherhood and it's ensuing sacrifices.
The women of our generation slipped into pre-determined
roles without a thought .My advise to today's generation
is to get into Motherhood with your eyes wide open,
if you are ready and willing to take up the responsibility,
you will have a great time playing Mom."
To end on a musical note
We are the Mothers
We are the stress busters
We make the world a better place
so let's start receiving ( for a change)
Sung to the tune of 'we are the world'
Cheers to Mother's day, albeit verbally. |
