2002 - A panoramic view on the world of photography
Photofair
2002, which is Asia's largest photographic
exhibition, was inaugurated by Shri Jayant
Patil, the minister of State for Finance of
Maharashtra, at Bombay Exhibition Center,
NSE Grounds, Goregaon (East) Mumbai on January
10. Organised by All India Photographic Trade
and Industry Association (AIPTIA), Photofair
2002 is a 4-day exhibition, which showcases
the latest innovations in the sphere of photography
like state-of-art-technology, digital technology,
and different products like cameras, lenses, flash
lights, filters, tripods, etc. More than 110 companies
like Kodak, Konica, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Sony,
Jindal, etc., have taken part in the exhibition.
The products displayed at Photofair 2002 include
cameras, lenses, minilab system, professional
photo studio equi pments,
flash lights, filters, digital imaging, photo
finishing process equipment, tripods, dark room
accessories, albums, photo frames, desktop publishing,
plotters, scanners, computer peripherals, monitors,
imaging peripheral equipment and accessories,
photo chemicals, printers, batteries, storage
device, image processing hardware, signage, banners
and posters, sign and graphic imaging, electronic
massage centres, and architectural hardware.
Photography is an art according to Prof. Dr
Dineshkumar A Gholse of Galaxy Video &
Photography Academy. People possess
very little knowledge about photography; they
are under the false impression that they can become
a photographer by simply clicking pictures with
a camera. Hence, we
aim to expose the advantages of photography to
the hordes of people who have taken part in the
exhibition.
The gist of programmes of Photofair 2002:
Photo Gallery: A visual panorama created
by award winning photographers and press photographers,
who have successfully arrested the technical wizardry
of nature, life-style, breathtaking moments, the
colour of fashion on the canvas.
Seminar on Service Tax: AIPTIA
has organised a seminar on the effects of service
tax on Indian photography, which will be graced
by eminent personalities like Mr M G Venugopal,
the Director General of Service Tax (Mumbai),
Mr S Meezan, the Additional Commissioner
of Central Excise Service Tax (Mumbai),
Mr V Sridharan, the Advocate of Supreme
Court, who will give their invaluable suggestions
to the participants.
Workshop on photography: A programme covering
the latest techniques of modern photography, which
will emphasise contemporary bridal portrait,
wedding photography, model portfolio, is
available to the audience.
Fashion
Show
Besides the Photo Contest that offers
cash prizes for the best entry, AIPTIA
has also organised a fashion show, graced
by prominent models, which can drool and delight
a maverick photographer.
Mr Dinesh Shah, the president of All
India Photographic Trade and Industry Association
(AIPTIA), observed, The basic objective
of the exhibition is to propagate the trade and
industry in the realm of photography. Our domestic
market is underdeveloped: For instance the per
capita consumption of film in India is 0.09 %
as compared to China's 0.1 %.
Mr
Dinesh Shah also asserts that the Photofair
2002 is expected to attract more 80,000 people
from India and other countries like Srilanka and
Bangladesh. Confessed Mr Kanti Patel, the

Ltd...We have showcased our products
like Nikon digital cameras, etc., for which
we have received multiple queries from the consumers
in the exhibition.
