Verve, College Festival
Come January
and there is hustle and bustle in almost
all the college campuses, as it is the time
for VERVE - the biggest and the largest
youth festival in India, organized by Express
Youth Forum (EYF) and The Indian Express
Group.
The Indian Express
has created several interactive forums in
Pune. The "Express Youth Forum"
with a motto of "Crusaders for a better
Pune" is one amongst these. The Forum
activities are focused at self-development,
recreation and growth amongst the youth
of Pune. Its membership is open to all,
between the age group of 16-28 years. The
committee is selected every year from amongst
the members. The Chairman and the Vice Chairman
of the forum are from the Indian Express.
The Express Youth Forum espouses several
social causes and successfully organizes
a series of events round the year for the
orphans and the physically challenged. Other
vital areas of focus include cultural and
educational events.
To provide a
healthy competitive platform for the talent
in various fields for the youth was the
reason to start VERVE in '96. Since then,
the graph of the participants and the visitors
has been rising. With 53 colleges and 13
events in the first Verve held in '96, the
number has increased to a solid 164 colleges
and 17 events spread over the span of 4
'happening days'. In it's second year, Verve
acquired the status of the biggest inter-collegiate
youth festival in India. 13 Events, 84 colleges,
3595 participants & loads of spectators.
Continuing the success story the third year
bettered with 114 colleges, 5393 participants
& 50000 spectators. With 144 colleges,
over 7000 participants and more than a lakh
spectators. Verve '99 enjoyed the honour
of being the most accepted and close to
heart event of the Pune collegians &
ended with an ambition of conquering the
hearts of the collegians all over India.
Surpassing all previous records The Millennium
VERVE had a whooping 162 colleges competing
for the coveted "Verve Trophy"
to relive to its image of being the biggest
and the best inter-collegiate youth festival.
This year the
event is expected to have about 164 colleges
participating and a spectatorship of over
a lakh of students. The event will be held
at Agriculture College and Police Parade
Grounds from the 25th to the
28th of January 2001.
