Asha: Bringing hope for women and girls.

Asha, a Non-Government Organisation was started by a group of The social workers of Asha conducting a workshop for teenaged girls.professionals. The agency works with the underprivileged, especially women and children in and around Pune.The founders of Asha felt the need to enlighten, empower and uplift women.

In November 1995, the then Secretary of the Group, Ms. Shyama Nair with the help of the Treasurer Ms. M. Dani, were instrumental in starting a Woman's Cell in a Police Station.

Asha also runs a Crisis Center for distressed women within the precincts of Vishrambaug Police Station. It helps women get legal guidance and acquire police help in registering complaints. Trained social workers screen, evaluate, assess, guide and give support as and when needed. The NGO also provides free legal aid, psychological and medical treatment.
