Kalpavriksha Kalpavriksha
(KV) is a voluntary group working towards environmental
education, research, campaigns and direct action.
Formed in 1979, it is Delhi based group, with a
branch in Pune as well. It began with a students'
campaign to save Delhi's Ridge Forest area from
encroachments and destruction. Started by tackling
local issues, Kalpavriksh has moved on to work on
a number of local, national, and global issues.
KV firmly believes that a country can
develop meaningfully only if ecological sustainability
and social equity are guaranteed and a sense of
respect for and oneness with nature and fellow
humans are revived
Kalpavriksha's diverse activities include
generating awareness in schools and colleges and
educating students with respect to the environment
by organizing talks, slide shows, nature walks
and outstation camps. It is also involved in creating
Public awareness with regard to organic food and
biodiversity issues.
The group is also into investigation and research
on diverse issues that have an impact on the environment.
Protection of the wildlife, protest against the
Narmada valley dam as part of the Narmada Bachao
Andolan, anti-plastics and alternative bag campaign
and campaign to save Pune University greens
are just some of the varied activities undertaken
by KV.
Over the years, it has brought out a number
of well researched, nominally priced publications
on various issues of environment and development.
