Mr. K. Taranath
Mr K Taranath has formally taken over as Managing
Director at Kirloskar Copeland Limited, from Mr.
Gopal Amin, who has left to pursue his own business
career. 
A Mechanical Engineer by profession, Mr.Taranath
joined Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. in 1963 as trainee
Engineer. He was the member of the Core group
that set up the Hermetic Compressors Division
of the Group in 1966. Incidentally, he assembled
the first Hermetic compressor himself.
He has worked in various capacities within the
organization in departments like Quality, Engineering,
Product Development and Human Resources. His last
assignment before taking over as the Managing
Director was that of Sr. Vice President- Operations,
where he was responsible for the operations of
the two world class plants at Karad and Atit.
Welcoming Mr K Taranath to the Board of KCL, Mr.
Sanjay Kirloskar, Chairman of the Kirloskar Brothers
Group said, "Mr Taranath has been associated
with the Compressor Business of Kirloskar Brothers
and subsequently with Kirloskar Copeland Ltd.
for the last 36 years. He has been quite instrumental
in the growth and development of the Company.
We are certain that under his leadership and guidance,
the Company will continue to grow and meet our
expectations."
In 1982, Mr Taranath successfully accomplished
the task of customizing the entire range of compressors
to the Indian conditions, when Kirloskar Brothers
Limited and Tecumseh International decided to
part ways. "The compressors were tropicallised,
thus making them ideally suited for tough Indian
operating conditions of high ambients, wide voltage
fluctuations. Along with this, we also embarked
on various initiatives to educate the Market,
which yielded major benefits to all our customers,"
he recalls.
He was also keenly involved in Product Development
Programmes that were initiated to improve quality
and reliability. These programmes have had overwhelming
success for the last fifteen years.
Mr Taranath has also been closely associated
in improving the quality of Human Capital at Kirloskar
Copeland. He was an active member of the corporate
team that introduced various human resources management
tools and developed various management development
programs for employees. Mr. Taranath spearheaded
the team that worked on the 'ISO 9001' certification
for KCL.
