Dr Anil Lamba - An expert on money matters
Meet
Dr Anil Lamba, a corporate trainer in finance,
he is the founder Director of Lamcon, a
Chartered Accountancy firm. Today, he has come
a long way since he first started conducting Financial
Training Programmes for executives from a non-finance
background. He started the training programme
in 1990.
Dr Lamba has completed law from the Symbiosis
Institute. He also holds a Ph.D degree and
is a Chartered Accountant too. Why did he opt
to teach? He says, "Teaching is a passion,
I discovered by fluke." In the early
stages of his career, Dr Lamba began teaching
finance at Ness Wadia College and the
Symbiosis Institute of Business Management,
an interest; he had to eventually give up on account
of time constraints. However, he was, by
then, hooked to the idea of imparting knowledge
and he decided to get into corporate training
with finance as the focal point.
Starting off as seminars, the training programme
has complete course material akin to that of a
college syllabus and is a 2-½ month comprehensive
course conducted thrice a week. The programme,
initiated in 1990, has had a continuous run and
has only recently completed 50 successful sessions.
Talking
about his diversified work in the field of Finance,
Dr Lamba seemed particularly happy with the seminar
he conducted in 1992, just before the Harshad
Mehta scam, and said that, "It was a
time of booming financial markets and lucrative
investment options. For the customers, especially
there was a lot of confusion, so we decided to
hold an exhibition of financial products inviting
all major financial institutions and conducting
a series of seminars alongside, which has now
become popular as Invest Fest. We were
simply overwhelmed by the response and the feedback
we received. "
In 1998, he along with Bharat Rawal, a Documentary
Film Maker, decided to capture all the programmes
on video and bring out a twin videocassette package
for wider reach. The cassettes received a tremendous
response, which prompted Dr. Lamba to shoot more
capsules. In 2000, they shot 6 more capsules on
Finance Management. Says he, "Shooting
of films will be an ongoing process."
However, the enterprising professional will not
restrict the scope to only finance, he plans to
work on other subjects with guidance from experts.
With Mumbai based Publisher Rajendra Publishing
House looking after the circulation and the
Lamcon Web-Site having an online order facility,
marketing of cassettes has never posed a problem.
In fact so popular are the cassettes that the
8 volumes have received a total of 50,000 copy
sales till date with overseas orders from 7 countries
too.
For Dr Lamba, teaching is certainly a passion
and what’s more paying too.
