Transnational Retailers like Wal-Mart, GAP, C&A,
J C Penny and Reebok have been increasing their
product outsourcing from India. Most of which includes
apparels. Global outsourcing is also increasing
for products like home textiles, leather, Stainless
steel, Diamonds and Gift articles.
In the next couple of years the $ 240 billion,
Wal-Mart is looking at increasing its outsourcing
from India to upto $3 billion. GAP's annual procurement
is upto $520 million, which makes it the number
one among all-global garment buying houses.
Looking at the scores of china, could indicate
the kind of ground we have covered. China's total
apparel imports stand at 38% as compared to India's
1.6% among non-quota countries. Nevertheless,
if the cost factor is taken into consideration,
then by 2004 India could definitely pose a threat
to China. The second layer of advantage that we
have over China is our English speaking ability
coupled with sound IT skills.
It's not long before India maps itself on the
Global map as a leader in outsourcing. Hopefully!
