A treasure trove with bargains galore
If
you're looking for a different kind of shopping
experience or something unusual or out of the
ordinary to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon, just
head for Koregaon Park. The rhythmic beat of the
tabla or the quiet strumming of a guitar will
lead you to the spot where all the action is -
the Riverview restaurant.
This quaint little restaurant by the side of
a canal is the perfect setting for the Pune Flea
Market. Held only on Sundays, this is a shopper's
delight. But first, you must remove your footwear,
before you step into this treasure trove.
The
flea market is a haven for hardcore shoppers and
good bargainers. The treasure on sale ranges from
a variety of fashion accessories, to garments,
to linen to the weirdest thing you can think of
- false teeth! . Whatever you need, from a used
paperback to a haircut, you'll find it here. And
the prices vary from Rs50/- to Rs2,000/-. But
if haggling is your forte, you can get things
for a steal. You could, for instance, pick up
a colourful purse or a strappy top for around
Rs200/-.
Some of the interesting items are jewellery made
of silver and semi-precious stones, like bracelets
and rings. They also have some nice purses and
handbags in a variety of colours. shirts, tops,
T-shirts and dresses, with bead and mirrorwork
and even satin linen.
An interesting feature of the market is the astrologer,
Deepak Vidman, who if told your name, date and
time of birth, is able to give you many more details
about yourself. But mind you, he does not offer
predictions.
And if snacking is what you're used to while
shopping, there are sandwiches and flavoured tea
to keep you going.
The Flea Market is open every Sunday in February,
so stop by, strike a deal and make your Sunday
worthwhile.
